NOTE: This was a hard page for me to add. The circumstances and some of the stories
are absolutely heart-wrenching since the explosion killed mostly children. In many cases,
the entire 2nd generation of New London/London families were gone afterwards. I am very
greatful that my children are healthy & alive & I just can't imagine the heartache
this awful tragedy must have caused or how the parents & community must have suffered.
I am putting the stories in as they appeared in the Henderson Times, a weekly local paper
that came out every Thurs. The first article was written on the day it happened & was
the only article in that paper written about it on that day. The rest are from the
following week's paper. The 2nd story gives a little background information on the
teachers. Most of the others are just very short accounts of misc. information with the
exception of "One Rescue Story Was Vividly Told" which is a long account of what
happened. Many names are mentioned throughout these articles, not just London people,
& the last item is a list of the known victims which appeared in the paper on Mar. 25,
1937. I have used the newspaper accounts exclusively since I just didn't have the heart to
write my own story on this...
