Baker, Allen Hill, Sr. born April 28, 1823 and died February 13, 1903. burial in Old Cemetery. Survivors: Jane Augusta Rocquemore Baker, spouse: Baker, Jr., R.W. and J.R. sons: Mrs Ella Holmes, Mrs Clause Knight, daughters. Came to Panola Co. in 1859 and settled 4 miles south of Carthage: was one of the 4 oldest citizens of Carthage

Dean, Sallie died March 4, 1903 and burial at the Old family burial ground at Youngblood school house near Beckville. Survivors: Parents, spouse, Robert Dean: brothers and sisters.

Fite, Dr. R. N. died of appendicitis complicated with other diseases. He resided in Timpson. Survivors are his wife and 2 children. He was buried in the old family graveyard 3 miles north of Carthage.

Mills, Tom residence Landmark. Cause of Death: While running Wilbur Wallace's gin his left hand got caught in the saws and cut the hand and arm all to pieces causing him to bleed to death before the physicians could reach the scene.

Tyler, Joseph age about 45. burial Knights Cemetery, Lufkin. Originally from Wales, was passing through Lufkin when he suddenly took ill and died: Rev. J. M. Wright collected money for a decent burial: relatives were not know to anyone, so no one could be contacted. had tatoos on his arms and chest.

Johnson, Uncle Peter L. Born March 12, 1828 burial at Woods Cemetery, lived near Woods in southern part of Co. Survivors: Spouse , Caroline E. Murray Johnson.Was a pioneer of East TX born in Alabama, came to TX in 1854: organized the first Sunday School in Woods in 1855 and helped organize Independence Baptist Church in 1856; was Mason and Confederate veteran: assisted in organizing Buena vista and Shelby Co. Assn. and was moderator most of the time: taught school and farmed after Civil War: president of Grange Org. & Supt. of Grange store at Tenaha: also served as Co. commissioner

Birdsong, Dr. M.J. Born December 5 1827 Ky and died May 28 1905 with burial in Old Mt Zion at East Panola at Midyett. Survivors wife: William A. Birdsong, brother: Mrs. H. V. Horton, sister. Mainly reared in Harrison Co. after he came to TX in 1840. Confederate veteran; practiced medicine in Panola Co. until 1884 when he moved to Greenville.

Thomas, Mrs. Bertha October 19 1888 died September 12, 1905. Survivors: Husband; brother; two sisters burial Six Mile Cemetery. Joined the Baptist Church in 1904 and lived a true Christian life. She was a bride only ten days.

Darnall, John F. Died October 28, 1905 resided 4 miles south of Antioch, burial in Johnathon Anderson Graveyard. Was traveling with two companions when the wagon wheel hit a telephone pole and threw them from the wagon, one wheel ran over Mr. Darnall.

Lee, William Newton born 1839 died January 6, 1906. Burial Old Presbyterian graveyard 3 miles each of Beckville. Survivors include eight sons (out of eleven) and two daughters (out of three). He came to TX in 1855 and settled 3 miles east of Grand Bluff Community; married Rachel Ellen Higgins in 1864. Member of Baptist Church at Old Bell Foundation.

Ramsey, Mrs. Cornelia born 1848 in North Carolina died May 20 1906 of heart failure. She is buried in Woods Cemetery next to her husband. Survivors: Gaston and Hull Ramsey, sons Rev. J. G. Clark of Tennessee and Joe Clark of Gary, brothers. Moved to TX shortly after the Civil War from North Carolina.

Langley, J. W. A. "Uncle Willis" Born May 10, 1868 or 1869 died July 10, 1906. Survivors" Belle Jones Langley, wife, sister and 2 brothers; Monroe Shaw, uncle Lee, nephew.Killed while standing under a tree which was struck by lightning. A silver dollar in his pocket had a hole burned through it, and his neck was broken. A negro, Phil Loyd was also struck and Killed. He was one of Sheriff Forsyth's deputies and a very popular citizen of West Panola also a member of Pine Hill Masonic Lodge and Royal Arch Masons. He came to Fair Play in 1872 and married in 1905.

East, Carrie Died April 14, 1908 at her residence in Gary. Survivors: R.K. East, husband ; 5 children (3 preceeded her in death); Mrs. C. F. Gary, mother; brothers and sisters. Died after illness extended over a few hours; was a native of Mississippi: had been married 28 years: member of Methodist Episcopal, South: was a model wife and mother.

Hairston, Mrs. Dora Born Jan 1, 1852 died May 1 1908 in Timpson. Survivors Elderly mother, John , Robert, Earl, Kate and Annie, Husband's orphan children and 6 children of her own. Had cancer of the breast for 12 months. Sought relief at surgeon's knife at Galveston suffered greatly; had come to TX with her parents, John and Elizabeth Holland in 1875 and settled in Panola Co.; married Robert Hairston.

Body was found near Page, Oklahoma; an express messenger who had left Shsreveport on a Kansas City Southern train bound for Kansas when he fell from the train and was killed, was well-known and had many relatives here; 22 years old; a Woodman in good standing.

Ford, J. D. Died September 26, 1908 of appendicitis after surgery. Survivors: Wife. Was editor of the Timpson Times: Mayor of Timpson; fixed his salaary at $1.00 a year, which yhe gave to a worthy cause.

Bentley, Rev. P.N. Died October 17, 1908, lived at Spindletop.Survivors: Wife: Mrs. Wm F. Holmes, Mrs. Will Seal of Jasper, Mrs T. Hahn and Mrs. R.E. Bell, daughters. J.T. Norris of Center had received a letter from Mr. Bentley stating he had come to Center to lay down his burden and be buried there; body was found that same day in the Polly Hotel at Center; cause of death was suicide. He had been pastor at Beaumont Baptist Church, also at Dewey Mills, Henderson and Center. Came to TX in his youth; served in Confederate Army; well know in Carthage where Mr. Hahn had once lived.

Bounds, Child died Jan 21, 1909 burial in Deadwood Cemetery. Survivors are Mr. & Mrs Jim Bounds, parents: 11 year old brother. Was 8 years old: shot with .32 caliber Stevens rifle by his 11 year old brother: died when bullet entered near his nose and lodged at root of tongue, suffered much before death; did not realize gun was loaded.

Hull, Col Edwin Sealey died at his home in Carthage, Woods Post Office. Survivors: Edward Sealey, Nancy, Thomas, Jane Garland, Helon, & Sarh, Children. Died at his home at age 91 when strickenb with something like vertigo: born of English parents soon after US gained indepencence. Active at the Battle of Waterloo in her majesty's army; immigrated to US with 2 brothers who were lost when ship wrecked; clung to a chicken coop and with three others washed ashore in North Carolina; married Eleanor Webb about 1817.

Howard, Bulah Hooper who lived in Deadwood, Survivors J. S. Howard, husband, who came to Carthage only 18 months ago as a yeoman organizer: Willie Howard, step son. Was barely 16 years old; was granddaughter of John Colburn and stepdaughter of Dr. Parker of Deadwood; committed suicide; note was printed in paper which indicated her husband was not satiasfied with her and she did not want to live without him; died from overdose of carbolic acid; inquest revealed no marks of violence. In a later paper was a notice telling on July 13, J.S. Howard was found in a ditch in Longview, at first he was though dead, but was considerly thrashed.
