Rocky Mount School 1940s

While sorting through some of my mom's old photos, I came across this one from the Rocky Mount (Sexton City) school. Rocky Mount ISD merged with New London in the early 40s. My brother, James Bickley is 3rd from right, and my cousin, Evelyn Lee, is 3rd from left (both on the back row). I'm pretty sure the girl in the dark dress with white collar is Natalia Crenwelge, and I suspect the guy on the right, wearing the holster, is my brother's pal, George Ragsdale. I don't know any of the others, but thought it might make a nice detective project.
This is probably a 3rd grade class, but I don't know the meaning of the R.4. I don't know if the old Rocky Mount school building is being used for anything nowadays or not. I think it was a hospital for awhile after the school closed.
