SAVE TEXAS CEMETERIES  

The Texas Historical Commission and Save Texas Cemeteries are taking steps to recognize and help preserve at-risk cemeteries. THC 's new program designates graveyards older then 50 years as Historic Texas Cemeteries. Cemeteries honored with this distinction receive a Declaration of Dedication to be recorded in the county clerk's office. By designating rural or small cemeteries and historic, it allows them to become more well-known ,instead of forgotten and less likely to be destroyed as cities expand. Maybe you know a Church or Organization that would like to nominate a Cemetery or two for a historic designation? All it takes is an application and a $25.00 processing fee to THC.
