The Mystery of the Hendricks Lake
Treasure
Hendricks Lake is a placid body of water which is contained in an abandoned long-age river bed of the sabine. The legend of the treasure of Hendicks Lake has been told and re-told around Tatum, and far beyond, for nearly two centureis.
Here's the facts:
In 1816 a motley group of men, reportedly associated with Jean Layfitte, the notorious pirate, sank the Spanish ship Santa Rosa in Matagorda Bay on the Texas coast. The pirates took large amounts of silver ingots, The pirates headed toward Trammel's Trace and a better roadway for their prize. At Nacogdoches, where Trammel's Trace joins El Camino Real, the looters were sighted by members of the Spanish garrison. Concealing the trreasure was their only hope. Hendricks Lake lay along side Trammel' Trace and seemed to be the perfect place (as it is told)
Many have tried to find the hidden silver, but only one coin from Matagascar, dated 1299 has ever been found. Now you have read the Legend of Hendricks Lake. (thanks to the writings of Cecil Martin)
