Jacob MASTERS, Sr., b.ca 1780, North Carolina; d. ca 1854 Crockett, Houston Co. TX m. Elizabeth Shaw, b. ca 1783; d. ca 1858, Crockett, Houston Co. TX.

Houston County Historical Commission states they came to Texas before 1828 and settled about 10 miles northeast of Crockett on the Old San Antonio Road.

Jacob Masters signed the petition to the Citizens of the Republic of Texas to form the county of Houston on 22 April 1837. On 4 Sept 1837 he also signed a petition to the Congress of The Republic of Texas to lower taxes. Vol I of "Founders and Patriots of the Republic of Texas" says Jacob served the Republic in Houston County and is one of the Founders of Crockett, TX.

Jacob MASTERS, Jr., b. 28 Oct. 1807 in Linclon Co., North Carolina; m., Eliza Carroyl (or Catherine)Wagley, b. 14 July 1811, Illinois; d. 6 April 1888, Houston Co. TX.

Jacob, Jr. one of 9 children of Jacob, Sr. moved from North Carolina and settled near Crockett in 1830. Jacob, Jr. received a land grant from Mexico at Nacogdoches dated 4 November 1834. Jacob Masters, Jr. served the Army of the Republic of Texas at the battle of San Jacinto.

In September 1837 Jacob, Jr. along with his father signed the petition to lower taxes which was submitted to the Republic of Texas.

In 1856 the family moved to McLennan Co. and settled in a small community named Mastersville in honor of Jacob. Later the name was changed to Bruceville, TX.

In 1870 the census states their residence as Waco. Both Jacob Jr. and Eliza are buried in the Moore Cemetery at Bruceville, McLennan Co., TX.

Abraham Andrew MASTERS, b. 29 Jan. 1834, Crockett, Houston Co. TX; d., 5 March 1896, Llano Co., TX; was the third child of Jacob, Jr. and Eliza C. Wagley Masters. Abe married Martha Ann Mixon, 7 Jan. 1858 in McLennan Co. Abe and Martha had one child, John Andrew MASTERS. Martha died in childbirth January 1860, McLennan Co. at the age of 20.

Abe served with the CSA in Louisiana and Texas during the Civil War while 2 year old John Andrew stayed with his Mixon grandparents. Abe enlisted 4 Jan. 1862 with Company B, 15th Regiment of the Texas Infantry at Millican, TX.

Following the war Abraham married Marthenas Henshaw on 22 March 1866 in Falls Co. with a licence from McLennan Co. and on 24 November 1874 he applied for a homested in Coryell Co. on property he had occupied beginning Sept. 1871.

The census of Llano Co. 1880 lists Abraham and Martha as farmers living in precinct #3 with 5 children John Andrew at the age of 20 had moved from the home.

Titus Calvin "Cal" MASTERS, b., 9 July 1881, Llano Co., TX; d., 3 March 1935, Troup, TX., buried in the Moyer’ Cem. Rusk Co., was the 8th of 12 children born to Abraham Andrew and Marthenas Henshaw Masters.

Titus Calvin "Cal" MASTERS married Ruth F. LEVERETT, buried Honey Creek Cem., Llano Co., TX, about 1900. He and Ruth had 5 children, David Lee, b., 1901, d. Jan 1969, Denver, Col., Oliver Dennis, b.,1904, d. in an accident at a young age; Velma Beatrice, b. 9 April 1908, Rusk Co., d. 28 Oct. 1991, Kingsland, Llano Co., TX, Bertha Mae and Maudie, d., 31 July 1995, Fort Worth, TX.

Titus married Daisy Elena Newman, Smith, Bell, b.11 Dec.1889, Rusk Co.; d.19 Jan. 1960, Beaumont, Jefferson Co. on 11 Jan. 1924 in Henderson, Rusk Co. Licence No.1036 by R. B. Jones. Daisy Elena MASTERS is buried in the Henry’s Chapel Cem., northeast Cherokee, Co.

Titus and Daisy had the following children:

1. Marchie Calvin MASTERS, b. Nov 1924, Henderson, Rusk Co.; d. 14 Dec. 1926, as the result of a fall from a ladder, Henderson, Rusk Co.; buried Moyer’s Cem. in an unmarked grave.

2. Myrtie Loretta MASTERS, b. 18 Oct. 1925, Henderson, Rusk co., my mother.

3. Verna Florence MASTERS, 9 March 1927, Henderson, Rusk Co.

4. Lawrence Ray MASTERS, 3 Sept. 1928, Henderson, Rusk Co.; d. 19 Nov. 1990, Houston, Harris Co., TX.

5. Carrie Jane MASTERS, b. 21 June 1931, Troup TX. Twin to Callie Marie.

6. Martha "Callie"  MASTERS, b. 21 June 1931, Troup, TX; d. ca July 1931, buried in Moyer’s Cem. without marker. Twin to Carrie Jane.

B. Jackson "Jack" MASTERS, b. 13 March 1883, Llano Co.; was the 9th child of Abraham Andrew and Marthenas Henshaw Masters. B. J., d. 12 Oct 1921, Henderson, Rusk Co. while visiting his brother ‘Cal’. Buried in Moyer’s Cem. B. J. MASTERS was never married.
