For those who need further research on Sheriffs of Rusk County, here is some helpful information.

In the book, Texas Sheriffs by Sammy Tise, pub. 1989, copies of which are located both in the Longview Public Library and the Tyler Public Library state that David was elected Sheriff of Rusk County on February 20, 1847, serving until August 7, 1848.

The District Court Minutes exist for Rusk County.  At the beginning of each term, the minutes list the name of the Judge, District Attorney, District Clerk and Sheriff.  I used this source for including David Wood in the list of Rusk County Sheriffs that I compiled for the 1992 Rusk County History Book.
