William Young, the son of Augustin and Catherine Pounds Young, was born inDeKalb Co., Ga., January 10, 1825. He was about nine years of age when his parents moved to Paulding County (now Polk). He married Elizabeth (Betty) Strong, September 4, 1845. They continued to live in this County until they moved to Texas, October 17, 1849. Great preparations had to be made for this journey, supplies for man and beast had to be taken. Many hardships were suffered before they reached Rusk County, Texas. They settled where now is known as the New Prospect Community. He gave four acres of land for the New Prospect Baptist Church and cemetery. On this land also is a large colored cemetery where many of the slaves were buried.During the War Between the States, he had charge of the Confederate Army teams and wagons, hauling supplies to the Confederate Army. While stationed in Louisiana, he was taken ill and died February 26, 1864. He was buried in the Strong cemetery in Rusk County. Betty, his wife, afterwards married B. F. Montgomery, August 1865. She passed away August 31, 1893, and was buried by William Young in the Strong Cemetery. B. F. Montgomery was buried in the New
