DAVID HENRY WALLER

David Henry Waller, a son of Jonas Memory Waller and Mary Madding, was born July 14, 1836 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. He married Martha Jane Wesly Williams, daughter of Henry and Irene Williams, who was born in 1842 in North Carolina. The couple’s children are: William Henry, John Howard, Sadie, Vinson, Clifford, Arthur Lee, Rhonda, and Viola.

According to records in the National Archives, David Waller was registered in the Civil War on the Confederate side. He and his father, Jonas Memory, both joined the same day. He also was in Company K., Ochiltree Regiment, Texas Infantry. He was at Camp Sidney Johnston, Marion County, Texas (Jefferson, Texas). He and Henry Watson once swam the Mississippi to keep the Yankees from catching them.

David was a farmer and owned land in Rusk County. The family lived on the old Peterson farm and used to have family get-togethers at Taylor Ditch. The last farm David Henry owned was in Crims Chapel and is still in the family.

David died July 31, 1904 and is buried at Crims Chapel Cemetery, Rusk County. His wife died in June, 1912 and is also buried in Crims Chapel.
