WILLIAM A. TIMMONS

William a. Timmons was born January 17, 1848 in Hogansville, Georgia. On February 25, 1877, he was married to Mary L. Barnes. She was born July 19, 1856. On January 6, 1878, a son Scott was born. He passed away on June 15, 1882. A second son, Luther Timmons was born on June 17, 1879.
In a few years after Luther was born, the Timmons family came to Rusk County by covered wagon. When they arrived in the Ebenezer Community where Mary’s sister and husband had settled, they had only what they carried in their wagon and fifty cents in cash. Mary’s sister and her husband were Fannie and George Hammett.
After several years of sharecropping and odd jobs, the Timmons family settled in the Gum Springs Community. On June 16, 1884, a daughter Etta was born. A son, William was born October 26, 1886. Then on September 9, 1891, a son Claude was born. Claude passed away on November 1, 1918, while serving in the Navy.
Luther married Bertha Jordan and they had no children. He passed away March 14, 1966.
William A. Timmons passed away April 22, 1914. Mary died February 6, 1927. They are buried in Duncan Cemetery in Rusk County.
