I, Terrie Earl Propes, was born in Jacksonville, Texas.  My father is a native of Jacksonville, and my mother was born in Palestine.  My mother’s name was Selena Joyce Whitaker.  She married my father, Roy Neil Earle, on June 19, 1960.  On August 13, 1961, I was born.  On July 22, 1962, my sister, Andrea, was born, and on November 28, 1965, my brother, Wade, was born.  My father has two brothers and one sister and my mother has two sisters.  My father is self-employed with his brother, Arlon.  They run a produce truck.  My mother is a third-grade teacher at Joe Wright Elementary School in Jacksonville.

As a child, I went to Joe Wright Elementary School in Jacksonville for six years.  Then I spent two years at Jacksonville Junior High.  My next four years were spent at Jacksonville High School.  During my school days, I was a member of the band for seven years and a member of the Future Teachers of America for two and one-half years.  I graduated in May of 1979 at the age of seventeen.  My favorite teachers were my eleventh and twelfth grade English teachers, Miss Childress and Mrs. Oliver.

After high school, I enrolled in Lon Morris College.  I graduated in May of 1981.  My favorite teachers were my Spanish teacher, Mrs. Keblinger, and my English teacher, Mrs. Harris.  During my years of college, I worked for Brookshire Brothers Number 17 in Jacksonville.  Here I met many people and got over my shyness.  At Brookshires, I met one of my best friends, Donna Shipley.

Around September of 1980, Donna started trying to “set me up” with her brother, Turner Propes, Jr.  At this time I was too busy with school.  Finally around October 12, 1981, Turner and I had our first date.  We went to Tyler and ate at the Pizza Inn, saw a movie, and returned home.  He asked me out for the next Thursday, and after that we dated at least once a week.  Around May of 1981, Turner asked me to marry him, and I said yes.  We asked our parents and they finally consented.  We had a little bit of trouble with my parents because they wanted me to continue college and become a teacher, but I had already decided to marry and continue to work at Brookshires.

In July of 1981, I got a transfer to the new Brookshire Brothers in Henderson that opened on August 17, 1981.  At the time, Turner worked at Henderson Clay Products.  On October 11, 1981, we were married by my Uncle Bill Raines.  My sister, Andrea, was my maid of honor and his sisters, Donna and Cilicia, and my cousin, Shannon were bridesmaids.  The flower girl was Turner’s sister, Dana.  Best man for the wedding was his brother, David.  Groomsmen were my brother Wade and Turner’s brothers, Daniel and Dewayne.  The ushers were my cousin, Patrick Earle, and Turner’s cousin, Stephen Propes.  We are happily married and plan to start a family in about two years.  We love each other very much and our love grows deeper every day.

Turner is now employed with Brown and Root in Longview.
