My father, Robert E. Morris, was a rural mail carrier of Henderson of over forty years, carrying Route 6, then Route 1, which was later changed to Route 2.

Robert was the son of William Clayton Morris and Sarah Millissa Allen Morris, my grandparents.  Grandfather was born in Jackson County, Tennessee in 1834, died November 25, 1930 in Rusk County, and is buried at Crims Chapel Cemetery.  My grandmother was born in Georgia. September 29, 1849, died September 9, 1915, and is also buried at Crims Chapel.  There were nine children born to this couple.

My father was born in Macon, Georgia on September 10, 1885, and came to Texas in 1894 with his parents.  They settled on the Millville Road about seven miles from Henderson.  As a young adult he became an employee of the post office, carrying the mail in a horse-drawn mail cart. He married my mother, Nellie Bell Williams, on January 6, 1916.

My mother was born on January 17, 1893.  She was the oldest daughter of Green Leroy Williams and Sarah Elizabeth Bell Williams.  There were seven children born to my Williams grandparents.

Our house was a large frame house which was been written about in the “History of Rusk County.”  It burned and the land was sold to what is now known as Henderson Clay Products.  My father died in 1961, my mother, in 1969, and both are buried at Lakewood Memorial Cemetery.

There are only two children in my family: Robert E. Morris, Jr., born July 3, 1925, and I. Sarah Helen Morris Crim, born July 26, 1918.  Both of us graduated from Henderson High School.

Robert entered the armed service in World War II, was captured in Germany, sent to a prisoner of war camp, and liberated in 1944.  He became an employee of Citizens National Bank and is now a senior vice-president.  He married Curtis Dene Brooks, daughter of Jesse and Mary Belle Bridges Brooks on June 17, 1949.  They have one son, Robert Edward Morris, III, born August 2, 1956.  Curtis Dene is librarian for Henderson High School.  Bob is a graduate student at Stephen F. Austin University, working toward a master’s degree in agri-business.  He and his dad are also engaged in cattle business.

I married Ralph F. Crim, son of Sanford and Carrie O’Quinn Crim, on December 17, 1938.  He is an employee of Marathon Oil Company.  We are the parents of three sons; Frederick L. Crim, born August 23, 1941; Morris S. Crim, born May 24, 1947; and R. Stephen Crim, born September 23, 1953.  Morris is a Vietnam veteran.

Freddie is married to Annie Fay Wood Crim.  They have two daughters, Tamara, age seventeen, and Tracy age thirteen.  He is employed by Pritchard and Abbott and Annie Fay, at the Henderson Memorial Hospital business office.  Morris lives in Dallas and works for Thomas Y. Pickett Tax Appraisers.  Stephen is married to Suzanne Brandon Crim, lives in Shreveport, Louisiana, and is employed by Marathon Oil Company.  Suzanne is employed by Caddo Abstract and Title Company.

I am an employee of the Henderson Public Schools.
