Forest III (nicknamed Len) and Kay Leslie were raised in Texarkana, Texas.  Len was very active in Scouting, having become an Eagle Scout as well as having received the God and Country Award.  He spent most summers at Camp Pioneer, a Scout camp near Mena, Arkansas, as a camper, and later as a counselor.  He graduated from Texas Senior High School and completed his college work at Texas A & M University.  Len moved to Henderson in 1974 before enlisting in the Army.  Following a tour of duty, during which he married Edith Wylie of Henderson, he completed his MBA degree at Stephen F. Austin State University in December, 1981.

Kay Leslie, having graduated from Texas Senior High in Texarkana, she then completed business studies at Kilgore College, where she was active in Phi Theta Kappa fraternity.  She worked in Henderson for several years before deciding to complete her college work at Stephen F. Austin State University.  There she graduated cum laude and was a member of Alpha Chi and Beta Gamma Sigma.  She now lives and works in Tyler.
