In 1965 when Nancy and Max met, all their friends knew it was serious because everywhere the group went, Nancy and Max managed to be together. In October 1967, they were married in the Methodist Church in Kilgore.

Nancy was born June 24, 1940, in Kilgore, the third child of E. Horace and Mildred Mullins Almand. Her mother was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. George Mullins, a physician of Emerson, Arkansas. Her grandfather was a Methodist minister. Nancy’s father, Horace, now deceased, was from Haynesville, Louisiana, where he had worked in a furniture store as a young man. Later he started his own stores – Almands in Henderson and Kilgore. (See "Realm of Rusk County" by Garland Farmer). The family still owns and operates stores in Tyler and Longview. Nancy has one older sister, Marilyn, and one older brother, E. H. Almand, Jr.

Max was born in Henderson, the youngest child of Leon M. and Alma Beard Crim. He has one sister, Jonell Crim Hedge. Max’s father, now deceased, was in many businesses through the years – taxi stand, city bus line, car dealership, United Furniture and interest in Southwest Tank and Treater Manufacturing Company. Alma Beard Crim, his mother, was the daughter of a Rusk County farmer. (See James Mitchell Beard account.)

Nancy graduated from Kilgore High and attended Texas Christian University, where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi sorority. Every summer during her teen years, Nancy attended one of the well-known camps for girls and thus developed her love of sports such as archery and tennis.

Max graduated from Henderson High School and attended Kilgore College and Stephen F. Austin. In 1963 he went into the army and served in Germany. He was released from service in 1965 and returned to Henderson, where he met Nancy.

Two children wee born to Max and Nancy – Brant (April 5, 1970) and Jolyn Almand (May 14, 1971).

Max is now retired from a family business. The Crims are members of the First Methodist Church.

Since their marriage, Nancy has become a gourmet cook and is noted among her friends for her wonderful dinners. Max has many hobbies, among them are photography, fishing and gadgetry. He loves all the new computer games, radios, and scanners. As Nancy says, "We are gadget crazy."

Brant and Jolyn are involved in music and sports such as riding, bicycling, and swimming. Other family members are two Schnauzers named Tramp and Kinder and three cats named Marble, Tom and Blackie.

The Crims are a family that works and plays together.
