LAFAYETTE F. COOPER

Lafayette F. Cooper was commonly known as L. F. Cooper. He was born in South Carolina and came to Rusk County as a single man and a schoolteacher. He first married Cora A. Turner, daughter of A. B. Turner and Sarah E. Turner, on June 4, 1891. They became the parents of a daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Cooper, who in later years married Winford Grady Young. Cora A. Cooper died September 1, 1895. After Cora’s death L. F. Cooper, married Minnie Francis Turner, the sister of his first wife. To this marriage was born a son, John Benson Cooper, who married Lucille Cooper in Brownsville, Texas. They were the parents of a daughter named Francis and a son named Edward.

L. F. Cooper taught at a number of Rusk County schools as well as at Lone Star in Cherokee County, Texas. He was a very active worker in the New Prospect Baptist Church until his death in 1972.
