GEORGE BOX

George Box (1829-1847) married Salina Sue Jones. Salina came to Texas from Georgia in a covered wagon with her brothers and four sons and a daughter. They settled at Rocky Mount near the present site of Sexton City, Rusk County. She was granted land by the State of Texas. George and Salina’s children were: James, Joseph, Frank, Benjamin Barton, and Mary Ann.

This Box family is descended from Benjamin Barton Box who married Ellen Russel. Their children were: James Ross, who married Cora Russel Adkins and had two sons, Walter Howell and Roger Russel; Walter Howell (1908-1969) who married Louise Goforth; Roger Russel (1919-1976) who married Dorothy Womack in 1941. Both Howell and Roger served in World War II, Roger in the Pacific and Howell in Europe.

Roger and Howell had three sisters – Leota Adkins (Wylie) Reed, Ellen Pauline Stovall Spong, and Helen Foster.

Roger and Dorothy Box have one son and two daughters. Their son, Roger Ray, married Ann Joiner and they have three daughters – Corris Ann (1976); Annetta Marie (1979); and Betsie Louise (1980). Roger and Dorothy’s daughter, Annetta Louise, married Tony Christian. They have one daughter, Stephanie Ann, who was born in 1971.

Leota Adkins Wylie Reed, who married L. H. Reed, long-time mayor of Henderson, was the daughter of Cora Russel Adkins Box by her former marriage to Adkins. Leota and L. H. have a son, Bob H. Reed. Bob married Rosa Laskowski, and they have two sons, Tom (1967) and James (1981). Leota Adkins Wylie Reed also had a daughter, Jane Reed, who married Davis Lynn Plunkett. Jane and Davis have two children, Robert Reed Plunkett (1966) and Michael Lynn (1969). (See Thomas J. Plunkett family).

Helen Box Foster, daughter of James Ross and Cora Russel Box had one daughter, Deborah Foster Partin. The latter’s children are Tonia (1968) and Julie (1971).

Dorothy Womack Box, who married Roger Russel Box, was the great-granddaughter of JohnMilton McDavid (1842-1884) and the granddaughter of Eula Mims McDavid, who married John Ethrel McDavid.
