The widow and five children of John Anderson, Sr. came to Rusk County in 1870 from Claiborne County, Mississippi. John Anderson, Sr. was born September 4, 1812 in Oglethorpe County, Georgia,. He died May 11, 1854, in Claiborne County, Mississippi. His parents were James Anderson and Mary (Polly) Combs. John Anderson, Sr. married Sarah Ann Rebecca Mickelberry, June 5, 1834 in Butts County, Georgia. Sarah Ann Rebecca Mickelberry was born October 14, 1820, in Oglethorpe County, Georgia. She died in Rusk County September 6, 1873 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery . Her parents were Alden Mickelberry and Betsey Young.
The Andersons descend from Robert Anderson, who died in 1712, at the age of seventy-two, in New Kent County, Virginia. The Mickelberrys descend from Edmund Mickelburrough, who was in Lancaster County, Virginia in 1664.
John Anderson, Sr. and Sarah Ann Rebecca Mickelberry were the parents of nine children. Their first son, James Alden Anderson, born May 27, 1835 in Butts County, Georgia, married his first cousin, Orra Elizabeth Taylor, February 14, 1858 of Hinds County, Mississippi. He died February 25, 1912 in Appleby, in Nacogdoches County and is buried in Bethel Community, Nacogdoches County. Their first daughter, Mary Elizabeth Anderson, born May 26, 1838 in Butts County, Georgia, married James Chatham, May 4, 1853, in Claiborne County, Mississippi.
The second daughter, Sarah Jane Anderson, born January 20, 1840, in Butts County, Georgia, married Samuel Hutchins, January 27, 1864, in Claiborne County, Mississippi. She died in 1877 and is buried in Hutchins Cemetery, Claiborne County, Mississippi.
William H. Anderson, the second son, was born October 18, 1842, in Claiborne County, Mississippi. He never married. He died before 1871.
Laura Antoinette Anderson, born October 15, 1844, in Claiborne County, Mississippi, first married William Henry Esterlin, April 6, 1863 in Claiborne County, Mississippi, and later married James E. Hutchins, December 21, 1867, in Claiborne County, Mississippi. She died in 1872, in Wascom, Harrison County, Texas.
John T. Anderson, Jr., born January 23, 1847, in Claiborne County, Mississippi, first married Frances Virginia Faulkner January 16, 1868, in Hinds County, Mississippi. Then on August 13, 1872, he married Sarah Catherine Griffin of Rusk County. His third marriage was to Mintie Manolia Dulin Miller of Rusk County, June 5, 1894. He died at Mt. Enterprise, July 23, 1929, buried at Shiloh Cemetery.
Amanda Anderson, born April 22, 1849, in Claiborne County, Mississippi was married twice: first to Patrick H. Hutchins of Claiborne County, Mississippi, and second to Jacob L. Cyphers, December 15, 1873, in Rusk County. Amanda Anderson died April, 1908, Hamlin, Jones County, Texas.
David Anderson, born May 23, 1873, in Claiborne County, Mississippi, never married. He died in August, 1872 in Rusk County and is buried in Shiloh Cemetery.
Martha A. Anderson, born May 10, 1853, in Claiborne County, Mississippi married John McCune Hays, November 21, 1872, in Rusk County. She died February 16, 1872, in Rusk County and is buried in Shiloh Cemetery.
