Gary

In south central Panola Co. Thirteen miles south of Carthage. Founded in 1898 when the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad extended its line south from Carthage. Once known as Zuber when it was a railroad station, the name was changed when a post office granted.

LATEX

In northeastern Panola Co.. Named for its location near the Louisiana-TX. It was a gas company town in 1924 with homes for employees and a company commissary before private businesses were established.

LONG BRANCH

In southwestern Panola Co. Six miles west southwest of Clayton. Named for a long sandy branch of Murvaul Bayou. Before 1880 there were settlers centered around a saw and gristmill erected by A.P. Wherry. Established in 1885 with the construction of a narrow gauge logging railroad by the Ragley lumber interests from Timpson to Henderson.

Three miles west of Carthage. Named for a Baptist Church organized there in 1845.

MAHON

In northwestern Panola Co. Eight miles northeast of Beckville. Named for G. D. Mahon who established a gristmill and cotton gin at the site in 1884.

MARTIN'S CREEK

In northwestern Panola Co. On a mail route from Longview. Named for Daniel Martin, settler on Martins Creek in 1833. A small fort built by Martin and John Irons was harassed by Indians until 1839. A stop on the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railroad in 1888, no village developed.

MIDYETT

In eastern Panola Co. Five miles southeast of Deberry. Settled by planters in 1850 as a part of the Deberry settlement.

MINERAL SPRINGS

In western Panola Co.. Named for a local spring though to have medicinal waters by early settlers. A negro church was built at the site in the 1870's. A flag stop on the TX, Sabine Valley and Northwestern Railroad (later part of the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe) in 1888. In 1948 the church had collapsed and woods covered the clearing.
