Miss Jane Library and Museum holds meeting in future home

Members of the Miss Jane Library and Museum met Saturday in their future home, located in the old 1918 bank building in Beckville, to finalize plans for the annual Christmas bazaar. After a discussion led by President Christina Knight, the group decided to have the bazaar only one day in conjunction with the Beckville Christmas parade on Dec. 6.

The building will open that morning at 10:00 with crafts and baked goods. The group always has a wide assortment of unique decorating and clothing items. They will also be serving soups, snacks and desserts before and after the parade.

Most of the money for the library comes from the bazaar. Memorials and acknowledgements are accepted. This year they sold Beckville Bearcat t-shirts and raffled a quiller donated by Peggy Rice. It was won by Diane Ludlow at the Beckville homecoming game. They made approximately $600 in. those two events

In September with the new school year, the library committee, under the direction and help of Jeanette Evans and Gloria Faye Bowman, wanted to be more active in the school functions. They donated a small Bearcat quiller, won by Jesscia Curry, as a door prize for the October PTO meeting.

To help celebrate during the week of homecoming, Evans and Bowman held a student drawing from each class for a Bearcat necklace, and a second donated quiller, won by Stephanie Moore, from the entire elementary student body.

"The group is proud of the progress they’ve made this year in getting the building renovated," said Knight. "This summer they took out the partitions upstairs and laid a new floor. They hired a renovation architect to assist with the plans, and are currently looking for someone to replace the upstairs window. It’s a slow process, but with support from the community, it can become a reality."
