AFFIDAVIT OF SUPPORT

Before me, J.G. Woolworth, County Judge in and for Panola County, Texas, on this day personally appeared W.M. Brian and A.R. Garland who, being by me duly sworn, depose and say, that their ages are 61 and 60 years respectively, and that their places of residence is Clayton, Panola County, Texas. We personally know and did know T.J. Garland, who is an applicant for a pension herein. We have known t.J. Garland since he was a child. We were boys together; we first knew him in Alabama Barber (sic) County when a child. We personally know that T.J. Garland, applicant for a pension, enlisted in the service of the Confederacy and performed the duties of a soldier. We personally know that T.J. Garland enlisted in R.F. Kolb’s Barber (sic) Light Artillery. He enlisted during may 1862 and performed the duties of a soldier until about May 1865. He enlisted in Barber (sic) County, Alabama. We were in the war together is the source of our knowledge. We know that the said T.J. Garland is unable to support himself by labor of any sort. We never did know any other soldier by the name of T.J. Garland serving in the same regiment or any other. We are positively certain that said T.J. Garland, applicant for pension, is the identical T.J. Garland who enlisted from Barber (sic) County, Alabama. Our answer is not based on conjecture, for we saw him enlist and served with him during the war. We know that T.J. Garland never did desert the Confederacy.
