James Erwin Lantrip  

MERKEL -- James Erwin Lantrip, 73, loving father and husband, died on Saturday, August 10, 2002. Services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Merkel Church of Christ with Dick Still officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Mount Hope Cemetery in Anson, directed by Starbuck Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

James was born August 6, 1929 north east of Hawley, on the Old King Place to Wesley A. and Verna A. Gaines Lantrip. He graduated from Anson High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran twenty years, retiring as a chief petty officer, serving in computer and communications services. Mr. Lantrip worked for First State Bank of Abilene as a vice president and data processing manager for ten years. He was self-employed as a data processor for several years. He was a member of the Merkel Church of Christ. He was active in genealogy, gardening, and woodworking.

James married Shirley Rich, November 20, 1954 in Glenview, Illinois. She preceded him in death June 15, 1990. He married Geneva Guinn in 1991 at Tye.

Survivors include his wife, Geneva Lantrip of Merkel; three daughters, Jackie Johnson and her husband, Craig of Abilene, Donna Lantrip of New York City, NY, Diane Tice and her husband, Chris of Allen; two sons, Charles Lantrip and his wife, Stacie of Merkel, and Dennis Lantrip and his wife, Anne of Parker; two step- daughters, Rain Ratliff-Kilgore and her husband, Joe of Abilene, Brenda Bennett of Merkel; two sisters, Jeanette Hall and Sue McCabe both of Abilene; a brother, Lee Lantrip of Abilene; grandchildren, Donnie and Dustin Dodson, Elizabeth Lee, Sherri and Hayden Lantrip, Jack Johnson, Nicholas Tice; step- grandchildren, Zack Kilgore, Ryan Ratliff, John and Susan Bennett; two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was loved by all and will be missed dearly.
