Ed Brown of Jones Co. TX

Information and Photos by Ed Brown
I ran across this picture, made in the fall of 1930 or
31 when we took this truck and left Union with a group of young men, mother and
dad and went on a cotton picking trip to South Texas finishing up when we
reached Jones County again. The hole in the floor bed of the truck is an open
battery well. Dad had to keep fooling with it to keep the truck battery on line.
We often camped out beside the road and mother made flour tacos and breakfast of
bacon and eggs and lots of pinto beans and ham for dinner and supper. The boys
slept under the truck on the ground and dad, mother and myself slept in the
truck bed on an old mattress. I was sure proud of my uniform and bandana.
I still remember it to this day.
I am now retired with about 27 years in the Military and live in
Mississippi.
