History of Blair District Number 32
District Number 32 was organized in May 1897 under the name of Center Point. The school was originally located about a mile southeast of the present site. About 1904 Mr. C.B. Hill, who was postmaster and merchant at the little inland town, gave it the name of honor of Mr. Watt Blair, who was then a prominent citizen of the community. When the Santa Fe Railroad was built at.Blair in 1909, the school building was moved to its present site and the school also called Blair. In 1913, the two schools, Blair and Dearington, which about a mile and a half to the northeast, were consolidated, the Blair site being used for the new building. A $2600 bond having been voted and the taxes increased to twenty cents, the present four-room school building was erected in the fall of that year.. Some of the patrons of the school who took much interest in the movements at this time we Jim Tucker, Willis Mayfield, Newton Harrison, J. C. Bickley, W. I. Cogburn, E. E. Patterson and Jim Campbell. In 1917, by an increased tax of fifty cents, the district became eligible to State Aid, which it has received each year since that time.
The school term this year with C. A. Jones and Misses Johnnie Bennett and Lucille Russell has been very satisfactory indeed. As a result of the general approval felt for the school1 it was little-trouble to increase the taxes of the district to one dollar. Much interest is being felt in a new building and steps will be taken to this end either this year or next spring. Blair is coming to the front and hopes, in all lines, to take its place soon among the leading rural schools of the county. Blair, we are counting on you!
