Benjamin Clay Chamness,Sr.,Co.D 28th TX Cavalry Reg.CSA,    son of James   Madison and Mary Ann Chamness, married .Amanda Adams in Panola Co.TX .  Benjamin  enlisted in Carthage TX. He was captured 14 Mar 1864  and  held prisoner until 22  July 1864 when he was exchanged at Red River Landing in a prisoner exchange.  He was home on furlough when the war ended , he served from 1 May 1862  until Nov 1865. He applied for Confederate Pension 3 July 1909, the application witnessed by Henry T. Chamness , and is on file in the Texas  State Archives Austin Pension # 16240

Stephen Matthew Chamness, Co. G 4th TX Cavalry , son of James   Madison and Mary Ann Chamness, m. Laura J. Jones, Panola Co. TX. He    applied for pension on 8 Feb 1911, but no record of service could be found ,   therefore he was required to submit affidavit of service from several people    knowledgeable of his service and it contains the names of several men from the   Carthage area ,but I failed to copy them, but am sure Henry T. Chamness was  one. He contracted measles which resulted in permanent disability . Stephen   was   also home on furlough when the war ended . His application indicated he  arrived   in Texas 10 Nov 1850, information not previously known , his Pension # 20291  and lived in Shelby Co TX at that time.

The above information was from a  review  of his records in the Texas State Archives , Austin TX , by Benjamin H. Chamness, Jr. in May 1997.

I, Mrs. M. E. Guthrie (Mary Elizabeth Crow Guthrie) do hereby make application to the Commissioner of Pensions for a pension.  I am the widow of T. C. Guthrie (Thomas C. Guthrie), deceased, who departed this life on 12 day of April, A.D., 1899 in the County of Rusk, in the State of Texas.
 
Application approved September 1, 1913. 
 
Pvt. Guthrie served in Company H, 19th Texas Infantry.  He enlisted May 10, 1862 and served until the end of the war.  He was captured at Ft. DeRussey, Louisiana March 14, 1864 and imprisoned at New Orleans until July 22, 1864.

Elijah Byrd "Lige" Herrin (ca. 1835-unk.), son of Daniel Byrd and Mary (Presnell) Herrin, enlisted for service with the Confederate States about September, 1861, joining Company "G", 10th Texas Dismounted Cavalry, CSA.
His unit was surrendered at Citronelle, Mobile County, Alabama, and paroled on May 9, 1865, at Meridian, Auderdale County, Mississippi; resulting in an honorable discharge.

My great grand father PRIVATE W.H.H.(William Harrison House) LADO, served in the confederate war, Pension Application # 10522. He served in Company E, 26th Texas Cavalry, known as " THE MENAGRIE". He served under COL. XAVIER B. DeBRAY. The following is information from the War Department, Sept. 14, 1904: It is shown that W.H. LADO(not found as W.H.H.LADO), private, Company E, 26th Texas Cavalry, C.S.A., enlisted October 5, 1861, at Hockley. The muster roll of the company for January and February, 1864, which is the last on file, reports him present. No later records found.

Martha Minor , widow of W. J. Minor Widow's Pension No. 34443

Mrs. Martha Minor states that she is the widow of W. J. Minor, who is deceased as of July 30, 1917, and that he was honorably discharged. She further states that they were married on August 1, 1865 in Rusk County, Texas, and that she remained his true, faithful and lawful wife up to the date of his death.

Pension No. 20327, from Rusk County, P. O. - Kilgore, R.F.D. No. 5, Texas. Application filed August 24, 1910, approved October 15, 1911, pension allowed December 1, 1911, signed by R. A. Buford, Commissioner of Pensions.

W. J. Minor states that he was honorably discharged at Marshall, Texas in June 1865.

Wesley Wiley Alexander STONE b.1844 in Rusk,TX d. 1922 in Falls Co,TX and is buried in McClanahan Cemetery next to his brother, Adolphus Wakefield Stone b. Sep 1842 in Rusk,TX d. June 06, 1910 in Marlin, Falls Co,TX. Both grave sites have the same marker inscription "PVT Co E 7 Texas Regt Confederate States Army", but Wesley's has an additional engraving that resembles a cross (CSA Purple Heart?).

Hiram Monroe STONE - CSA records show: joined Capt. Jack Davis' Company, Gregg's Reg't Texas Volunteers on Sep. 21, 1861 in Rusk, Cherokee County, Texas at the age of 21 for a period of 3 years or the duration of the war. On Feb 9, 1862 he was left sick at Clarksville, apparently he recovered and rejoined his unit. He received pay in the amount of $289.16 which was payment for services from enlistment to discharge on March 12, 1863 at Port Hudson, Louisiana.  Hiram Monroe Stone b.Sep 1841 in Rusk,TX d. Nov 1900 in Smith Co,TX

The 3 brothers listed above were the son's of George Washington Stone b.1812-1815 in TN d. Jul 23, 1883 in Troup, Smith Co., TX and Kerrenhappa (Carrie Ann) Swinford Stone b. 1822 in NC daughter of Seith Swinford of SC and Elizabeth Cherry of SC.

B. B. WALKER is found as a Private in Company F, 17th Consolidated Texas Dismounted Cavalry, CSA, a field organization of men who formerly served in 15th, 17th, 18th, 24th, and 25th Texas Cavalry and the 6th and 10th Texas Infantry, on a Company Muster Roll dated Jan and Feb, 1864. This record shows that B. B. WALKER was a Private in Captain Duncan Preston's Company, 17th Regiment Texas Volunteers. The record states that he joined for duty and enrolled on 1 FEB 1863 in Henderson, Texas, by Captain Preston, for a period of 3 years. This company was also known as Company "F", 17th Consolidated Regiment, Texas Dismounted Cavalry, which was a field organization formed 1 JUL 1863, in the Trans-Mississippi Department, principally of men who had formerly belonged to the 15th, 17th, 18th, 24th and 25th Regiments Texas Cavalry and to the 6th and 10th Regiments Texas Infantry and who had not been captured at Arkansas Post, Arkansas, 11 JAN 1863.

Adjutant General's Office, U. S. War Department, Washington, D.C.
David A. Walker served the Confederate States as a soldier in Company "F", 17th Consolidated Texas Dismounted Cavalry. He is found as D. A. Walker, David Walker, and David A. Walker.
The following records exist:
March 1, 1862 - Enlisted with the rank of Private by Captain Thomas J. Johnson at Henderson, Texas, for a period of one year; February 24, 1865 - Register of C. S. A. Hospital, Shreveport, Louisiana, rank - Private, disease - Chronic Diarrhea, status - Returned to duty February 24, 1865.

James Monroe Watson (1834-1914), son of John and Agnes (Gardenhire) Watson, enlisted for service with the Confederate States on September25, 1861, joining Company "G", 10th Texas Dismounted Cavalry, CSA.  He wasseverely wounded at the Battle of Chickamuga, Georgia; and, hospitalizedwith his injuries.   His unit was surrendered at Citronelle, Mobile County,Alabama, and paroled on May 9, 1865, at Meridian, Lauderdale County,Mississippi; resulting in an honorable discharge.

Mrs. Mira Watson,   Widow's Pension No. 32640, from Rusk County, P. O. - Kilgore, R# 6, Texas. Application filed March 13, 1916, approved March 24, 1916, pension allowed March 1, 1916, signed by J. C. Jones, Commissioner of Pensions.

Mrs. Mira Watson states that she is the widow of J. M. Watson, who is died on July 17, 1914, in Rusk County, Texas; and that he was enlisted and served, without deserting, in the military of the Confederate States. She further states that they were married on December 24, 1867 in Rusk County, Texas, and that she remained his true, faithful and lawful wife up to the date of his death.
