Sam was one of three sons of John Clinton and Effie Whittaker Patrick.  He was reared on farms in the Patrick Community and never left the land except for a brief time of employment in the oil fields near Wortham, Texas.

As a boy, Same went to school and church at Shiloh.  After he returned from the oil fields, he married Carrie Threadgill, daughter of James and Patrice Threadgill, in 1835.   Sam and Carrie lived in the Patrick home and cared for Sam's parents until their death, Effie in 1939 and John in 1953.

Carrie's parents lived about three miles from the Patrick home and both families attended the Shiloh Church all their lives.  it was always a happy reunion for Carrie's younger brothers when they met her at church and when she came to visit.

Sam and Carrie shared a joy of caring for others. neither was every too busy to drop what he was doing in a time of need, nor were they ever known to do harm to others.  These traits held true and steady thought their years, with no thought for a return of favors; it was a way of life for them.   Carrie worked beside Sam in all the chores on  the farm and became a marvelous cook and homemaker.  her chicken and dressing was the first to disappear at family gatherings and reunions, such as the fourth of July picnic at Shiloh.

In 1970, after they were alone at the old farmhouse, their daughters and their husbands, encouraged Sam and Carrie to build a new home.  The old house had served three or four generations and was drastically in need of repair.  Carrie and Sam had both taken jobs with the Henderson Schools as a means of livelihood and to pay for their daughter's education.  When Carrie's brothers and sisters and their friends and neighbors learned of the dreams for a new house, all pitched in with their varied talents and in a few short months, Carrie and Sam held open house at their lovely new home, built with loving hands and from the smooth old siding and handhewn timbers of the old house.  Its completion was a work of love by the many who had benefited from their devolution through the years

Sam died in October, 1980,. and is buried at the Shiloh Cemetery as were his parents before him.  Carrie has retired and busies herself with the farm, her church, and her love of antiques.  This past summer, she disassembled an old outbuilding and enclosed her porch, overlooking the hills and beautiful pines back of their new house.

Of this family's two daughter, Janie is married to Glennis Price and they have a son, Charles, born in 1958 and a daughter, Tracy born 1964.  Shirley married Jim Harvey, and they have three children, Jimmy, born 1961, Doug, 1964, and Kimberly, 1966.  Jimmy and his wife Mickey live near Kingsville, where he is stationed with the Navy.  Submitted by Doris Threadgill
