Donald Nance and I, Jewel Mildred Nicholas, were
married May 16, 1952 at the First Pentecostal Church in Price, Texas.
Donald is the son of Mrs. Edwin G. Nance of Henderson, formerly of
Childress, Texas, and the late James Word Nance.
I am the daughter of the late Johnnie Clayton and Burnetta Vee Nicholas.
I attended school at Carlisle, and Don attended Henderson, Laneville, and
Orange, Texas schools.
I was a local telephone operator for twenty-five years.
Don and I were married while he was in the Air Force.
He is now employed by Continental Can Company of Longview, Texas.
Don and I have three children – Donnie, age
twenty-eight; Ronnie, age twenty-six; and Allenda, age nine.
Donnie is married to Donna Ware, and they have one daughter, Brandl, age
eight. They live in New London.
Ronnie lives in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, and is marred to
Kathy Buck. They have one daughter,
Jenna, age six.
My parents’ families came to Texas from Tennessee and
Georgia. I have a letter that was
written by my great-great-grandmother, Fannie Barnes, from LaGrange, Georgia,
dated 1885. My grandmother, Etta
Timmons Gaston, was a baby when the letter was written.
The Nance family came to America from France.
