Angela Margaret Brown, the daughter of Gordon Brown and Margaret Wright Brown, was born in Henderson, Texas. She graduated from Henderson High School and attended Kilgore Junior College, where she enjoyed being a Rangerette. She received a B.S. Degree from North Texas State University, Denton, Texas.

She was married May 12, 1962, to Army Captain Charles John Karalekas of Boston, Massachusetts, in the First United Methodist Church, Henderson, Texas, by the Rev. Robert Johnson of the St. Matthews Episcopal Church, also in Henderson.

Charles is the son of John and Stella Karalekas of Waltham, Massachusetts, both born in Greece, but now United States citizens. Charles attended school in Watertown, Massachusetts, graduated from Boston University, and later received his Master’s Degree from Georgia Southern University, in Statesboro, Georgia.

Angela, after finishing college, taught school in Andrews, Texas, for several years and then went to Germany where she was employed in the United States Army School at Baumholder (Hitler’s old stronghold). There she met Charles, who was stationed there with the Army at that time. They both returned to the United States and Angela worked in the schools in Ayer, Massachusetts, while Charles was assigned to Fort Devons near Ayer.

After their marriage, like all army people, they have lived in many places, including Brookline, Massachusetts; Fairfax, Virginia; Fayetteville, North Carolina; Augusta, Georgia (twice); Fort Ord, California; Panama; Annlston, Alabama; and Newport News, Virginia. They are now living once again in Fairfax, Virginia, while Charles works in Washington, D.C.

Charles has also had two tours of Vietnam, one in 1968 and one in 1972, and has recently been on an assignment in Israel.

Angela and Charles have lived in many localities and have made friends wherever they are stationed, but both call Texas their real home.
