Herman Hunt was born at Brachfield, July 10, 1896, the son of Will and Josie (Crumpler) Hunt. His grandparents were William and Martha (Jimmerson) Hunt. He was married to Nora Iverson, December 28, 1919. The ceremony was performed at Brachfield by Brother E. E. Jones. Herman and Nora thought they were slipping off; but when they arrived at the preacher’s home, half of Brachfield was there to witness the ceremony, which was performed as they sat in their buggy.
Nora was the daughter of Pope and Mary Melinda (Lennie) Mansinger Iverson. Nora was born at Brachfield; September 2, 1902. Their entire married life has been spent in this same area, as they still reside in the Patrick Community, where they are members of the Pleasant Springs Presbyterian Church. Herman has been a farmer and Nora a housewife and mother.
They became parents of twelve children, six boys and six girls. The boys are: Chester of Dallas; John Robert "Ikie" of Houston; Jim Iverson of Bastrop; Loyd of Huntsville; Joe Murray of Jackson, Mississippi; and Sammie Don of the Patrick Community. The girls are: Macie Scarbrough of Arizona; Inez (Mrs. B. W. Wade) of Dallas; Billie (Mrs. Giles Hall) of San Antonio; Sue (Mrs. Joe Leverett) of Dallas; Grace Robertson of Littlefield; and Gwen (Mrs. Charles Brewton) of Dallas. Inez and Billie are following the nursing profession; Gwen is a beautician, and Sue works in a bank.
During World War II, all the boys served in the armed services, most of them overseas. Jim Iverson Hunt attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel and received many awards and medals for heroism. He is now a teacher.
Mr. and Mrs. Hunt are very proud of their twelve children, thirty-one grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Sammie Don Hunt is the only child of the Hunts who has remained in Rusk County. After service in Korea, he married Linda Giles, daughter of L. T. and Helen (Welch) Giles, and they now reside near his parents in the Patrick Community. They have one daughter, Holly Hunt, in the third grade in the Henderson Schools. Sammie Don is employed by Lone Star Steel Company.
