After the above was submitted, Dr. Lynn Hilbun died suddenly while on the golf course at Henderson Country Club, November 23, 1981. Dr. Hilbun, a graduate of Baylor Medical School (1930), began his practice of medicine in Henderson in 1934, in partnership with Dr. L. M. Shipp. Their offices were in the old Crim Building on the square until they moved to Dr. W. P. White’s residence at 119 South Marshall Street and converted it into office spaces. After World War II, Dr. Hilbun was joined in practice by Dr. Jesse E. Ross, Dr. Robert Looney, and Dr. Hilbun’s son-in-law, Dr. Marlin T. Braswell. In 1957 at this same location, Drs. Hilbun, Braswell, and Ross were joined by Dr. Alfred E. Wolfe and built the Medical-Surgical Clinic where Dr. Hilbun continued his practice until he and his wife moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1962. They returned to Henderson in 1972 to reside at 520 Holly Street.

In 1978, Dr. Hilbun was honored for his long service to Rusk County with a "Dr. Lynn Hilbun Day" at which time an endowment scholarship for medical students at Texas A&M University was established in his name.
