The Thomas Griffin Family came to Rusk County in 1858 from Cherokee County, Alabama. Thomas Griffin was born in 1821 in North Carolina. His father was Wiley Griffin. Thomas Griffin died in Rusk County in 1869 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery, Rusk County. He married Sarah Arminta in 1840 in Alabama. She was born in 1822 in Tennessee and died in Rusk County in 1873 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery.
The Griffins were the parents of nine children:
William Robert (Bill) Griffin was born October 3, 1841 in Cherokee County, Alabama, died June 11, 1892 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery. He married his first cousin, Sarah Jane Griffin, in Rusk County, January 18, 1866.
James L. Griffin, born July 4, 1843 in Cherokee County, Alabama.
Alexander L. (Alex) Griffin, was born May 23, 1845 in Cherokee County, Alabama. He died March 17, 1927 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery. He married (1) Lemancy Dent, January 19, 1875 in Panola County, Texas, (2) M. A. Griffith, March 8, 1889 in Panola County, and (3) Willie Smith, January 4, 1891 in Rusk County.
Sanala Mahaly A. Griffin was born August 22, 1847 in Cherokee County, Alabama. She married Columbus C. Busby, January 13, 1870 in Rusk County. Lewis
C. Griffin was born January 8, 1849 in Cherokee County, Alabama. He married Matilda C. Berry in Rusk County, January15, 1873.
Sarah Catherine (Kate) Griffin was born December 28, 1851 in Cherokee County, Alabama. She died in 1889 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery. She married John T. Anderson, August 13, 1872 in Rusk County.
Mary Ann Griffin was born March 3, 1853 in Cherokee County, Alabama. She married Rev. William M. Gaddy, November 15, 1871 in Rusk County.
Joseph Thomas Griffin was born March 1, 1857 in Arkansas. He died in 1894 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery. He never married.
Elizabeth Griffin was born October 20, 1859 in Rusk County. She died in 1859 and is buried in the Shiloh Cemetery.
