General John Graham and his wife, Jeanette, settled in Henderson on East Street before 1860. They came from Montgomery, Alabama. Their children were: William, Robert, and Smith, who seems to have remained in Alabama. Their son Malcolm was a senator from Rusk County to the legislature in 1850. He was representative for Rusk County to the Secession Convention at Austin and also represented Texas in the Confederate Congress at Montgomery, Alabama. Malcolm’s first wife, Amelia C. Ready, is buried in Henderson. John’s daughter, Caroline, married Bolling Hall. Another daughter, Mary Eliza, married a Mr. Street and lived on Crimcrest Hill in Henderson. John’s son, Leonidas (Dr. Lon Graham) was an early physician in Henderson. John Graham’s cousin, Dr. A. B. Graham, settled in Rusk County before John Graham. His farms were in the Graham Lake Community. Dr. A. B. Graham was the ancestor of Mrs. Dickinson who in 1905 purchased the Howard House on South Main now known as the Howard-Dickinson House. Dr. Graham was also the grandfather of Dr. A. G. Sadler, who practiced medicine in Henderson from the early 1920’s until his death in the 1940’s. Written by Ron Gregory
