The earliest knowledge of the Faulkner family begins in South Carolina. From there the migration west began in 1825-1827. There were at least five brothers. One named Cullen Larkin was born in 1821. Cullen met Mary Ann Thresea Bean from Georgia and they were married in Randolph County, Alabama in 1844. They made their first home there on a farm and raised a family of ten children. During the Civil War, Cullen served in the 13th Alabama Regular Infantry. Shortly after the war Cullen and three of his brothers moved their families to Rusk County, Texas. In his later life he and Mary moved to Comanche, Texas to live with a daughter. He died and was buried there in 1885. One of Cullen’s sons was Morgan David, born June 10, 1849. He united with the Baptist Church at the age of seventeen. In Minden, Texas in 1874, he married Mary Antoinette Eliza, daughter of Wylie Astin and Elizabeth (Carson) Parker. He was a farmer and became the father of eight children. William Harrison, the oldest, was born May 10, 1875. William Harrison married Amanda Melvina, the daughter of Emanuel and Martha (Carlisle) Truelock. They lived in Chapman and went to the Liberty Baptist Church, where he was a deacon. Harrison and Mandy had the following children from 1897 to 1915: Annie, Robert, Morgan, Bernice, Dewey, Florence, Mattie, Lorene, Ruby and Edna. To these seven daughters Mandy passed on her famous recipe for “butter roll,” which is still in demand at family reunions. In 1915 Harrison’s father, Morgan David, died in their home and was buried in the Liberty Cemetery. In early years Harrison was a farmer and later he operated a small store in Liberty. He died on November 7, 1946 and was buried in the family plot. The second son in the Harrison Faulkner family was the second Morgan David, born March 11, 1900. On November 19, 1921 he and Julia Velma, daughter of Lewis and Benner (Ross) Brooks, were married. They lived in the Liberty and Chapman communities, with Morgan earning a living as a farmer, a Raleigh salesman, an iceman, a school bus driver, and other employment. His special talent then was making syrup, and now it is fishing, at which he is one of East Texas’ best. To this couple were born seven children: two who died young; E. H. (Buddy), born June 1, 1925, who married LeNelle King; Virginia, born May 8, 1927, who married Robert Foster; Euel, born April 9, 1929, who married Barbara Watson; Vernon, born April 18, 1931, who married June Green; and Marion, born May 27, 1941, who married Phillip Miller. Velma died on March 24, 1943, leaving Morgan alone to bring up the children. He is now living in Henderson, Texas. His second son, Euel, a building contractor, is living in Dirgin near Martin Creek Lake. He and Barbara have two sons: Derek, born July 14, 1957, who graduated from the University of Texas in 1981 as an architect; and Lowell, born May 1, 1960, who married Jennifer Roberts, August 7, 1981 and is at present a student in the University of Texas, studying petroleum engineering.
