BILL E. CLAXTON

Bill Claxton is a Texas, born and raised in Milam County, son of Aubrey Claxton and Essie Williams. In 1954, he married Abielene Ballenger, daughter of Mary Ellen Waller and Gus T. Ballenger of Rusk County. Since that time, Rusk County has been home even though they did not permanently settle here until 1968. He served twenty-one years in the United States Navy, living all over the United States and in Japan, the Philippines, Korea, Guam, Cuba, Panama, Canada, and Spain.

Bill retired form the navy in 1968 and has lived in Henderson since that time. Bill and Abbie have two daughters. Lisa Kay, born in 1959 in Corpus Christi, Texas, is married to Geary D. Hood from Wilburton, Oklahoma. She is a registered nurse at Good Shepherd Hospital in Longview where they live. Her first work as a nurse was at the Henderson Memorial High School. Cristina Suzanne, born in 1965 in Rota, Spain is a student at Henderson High School.

Bill has worked at Marathon LeTourneau in Longview since retiring form the Navy. The Claxton’s are members of the South Main Church of Christ.
