JAMES AND NANCY CHAPMAN

James Chapman, born April 15, 1810 in Georgia, died February 24, 1897 in Texas. He married Nancy Hoyle, born March 12, 1815 in Georgia, died February 10, 1872 or December 11, 1833 in Pike County, Georgia. Both are buried in Pine Grove Cemetery.

The Chapmans and the Hoyles were among the earliest settlers of East Rusk County, and they were farmers. There was a Chapman Store, and the present Community of Chapman was named for the James Chapman family.

James and Nancy had eleven children. John W. who was born in Georgia, October 12, 1836 and died July 20, 1870 and is buried at Waldrop, married Frances Jackson, who was born December 14, 1847 and died March 9, 1895 and is buried at Waldrop. John and Frances had two children.

The second child of James and Nancy was James H. who was born in Georgia in 1839, died September 8, 1869 and is buried at Pine Grove.

Amanda was the third child of James and Nancy. She was born in Alabama in 1849, married John Jordon, Sr. They had three children.

Martha A. who was born in Alabama October 6, 1843 and died May 27, 1886, married Lynn H. Patterson, January 17, 1867. They had seven children.

Nancy Fredonia, who was born in Alabama, September 8, 1844 and died March 15, 1922, married James Anderson Sears, who was born in Alabama, April 12, 1851 and died January 6, 1912, on December 5, 1872. Both are buried in the Pine Grove Cemetery. They had five children. (See O. T. Sears Account)

Buddy was born in Texas in 1846. Nothing is known of him except that he died young.

Oscar Fritz, who was born in Texas June 4, 1848 and died June 7, 1915, married Nannie Weems. Their children were: Willie (married Docie Norsworthy); Allen (married to Bessie Phillips); Ida (married a Bradley); Cora married Dowe Randall; Emma (Single); Monnie (Single); Eddie, who was married twice; Walter, who married Ada Mary Nix and they had one son.

Thomas Jefferson, who was born in Texas February 2, 1851 and died February 15, 1886 and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery, married Frances Josephine Hoyle (born January 23, 1852 and died January 25, 1917 and is buried in Liberty) on January 23, 1852. They had four children.

Jim was born in Texas, 1854.

W. A. born in Texas April 2, 1959 and died September 8, 1880 and is buried in Pine Grove Cemetery.
