Submitted by Louise Busby Gibbs
Obituary from The Panola Watchman, Vol. 8, No. 49, dated May 25, 1881,
Carthage, Panola Co., TX, reads:
“P. Floyd Gibbs, an old and prominent citizen of this county, died rather suddenly on Thursday last the 19th inst., of bilious colic. A few years ago, he was a man of considerable means, a great portion of which he spent in the court house, prosecuting and defending suits, but he has been cited to appear his last time now, and like the many men of note who have gone before him to the spirit land, he will be forgotten, as it were, ere the green grass grows over his grave. He was 66 years old.”
