Roberts, Monroe: Asserted himself to be a Democrat while in the presence of other negroes: they tied him up, carried him off, and shot him. Warrants were issued for the arrest of Jim Gass, Alex Gass, Chas. McComen, and Hubbard. This was in Harrison Co.

PHILLIPS, Mrs. S. E. Jane: Born January 16 1820 in Mississippi died Oct 16, 1873. Was 53 years old was married twice and was early the subject of religious influence. Survivors included Z.C. Phillips, second husband, and one orphaned child.

Green, John . who resided near Sugar Hill Died August 6, 1873. Mr. Green had gone west in his wagon for the purpose of looking out a new home. He was struck by lightening during a thunderstorm near Cedar Grove in Kaufman Co.. Another man in the two horse wagon and both horses were injured. Survivors is his wife, who was the daughter of J. J. Wills and one child.

Sherrod, Sister C.O. : Born in Newburry District, SC and Died September 24, 1893. Survivors are John and Elizabeth Rudd, parents: Charles Sherrod, spouse and three little children. Came to TX in 1858 and married Charles Sherrod in 1868.

Johnson, Henry M. Died: 1872 (sic) 1878 murdered by S. M. Robert's son in law. Reward of large sum of money was offered by Gov. Hubbard for capture of Roberts, who was captured in Florida in 1878 by Sheriff Brown Ross of Panola Co. Johnson was a good man and respected citizen of Panola Co.

Holmes, Wylie born 1858 died January 10 1879 in the Keachi Area. He was killed in a shooting with his brother in law, Ben Talbert, eight miles northeast of Keachi. He belonged to a well respected family in the community and was well like by the public.

Hull, Mrs. Jane L. D. F. born 1821 died June 11, 1879 at her residence on West 42nd St., New York City. Survivors are Dr. A. Gandison Hull, husband. Died of Congestion of the brain and lungs caused by suffocation from a brutal attack during a robbery in her home.
