03/09/2004 Obituaries The Daily Sentinel Minta C. Adams Sunset MP, Nacogdoches Funeral service for Mrs. Minta C. Adams, 98, of Nacogdoches, Texas, will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday, March 10, 2004, at Cason Monk-Metcalf Sunset Chapel with Dr. Allen Reed of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park. Mrs. Adams died March 5, 2004, in Nacogdoches, Texas. She was born March 3, 1906, in Rogers, Texas, to James Alva Johns and Rosa D. Alexander Johns. Mrs. Adams attended elementary school in Texas and graduated from high school in 1928, as valedictorian of her class in Durant, Oklahoma. She received her B.A. degree from Southeastern Teachers College in 1931, majoring in Spanish and in English. She and her husband, David W. Adams, moved to East Texas in 1932. Two sons kept her employed for several years before she went back to school and received her master's degree in elementary education from Stephen F. Austin State University. She taught in Roswell, New Mexico, before retiring in 1971. In college, she was active in Tau Beta Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta and had articles published in The Phi Beta Sigma National Honorary Organizations at Southeastern. After retiring, she did voluntary work at Memorial Hospital. She was active in AARP, RSVP and voluntary work at the Nacogdoches Treatment Center, and she was a long-time member of a local garden club. She also had been active in the Baptist church since age 14. Mrs. Adams had long been a member of First Baptist Church of Nacogdoches, Texas. Mrs. Adams is preceded in death by her husband, David Walter Adams, in 1973; parents; sisters; as well as her brothers. Survivors include her sons, David Duane Adams and wife, Eloise, of Nacogdoches, Texas, and Joe Neil Adams and wife, Christy, of Nacogdoches, Texas; grandchildren, Michael Terry Adams and wife, Shelley, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Christopher Neil Adams and fiance, Jaclyn McGuire of Nacogdoches, Texas; great-granddaughter, Bailey Alyse of Nacogdoches, Texas; friends and staff at Oak Manor Nursing Home; and special friends, Gordon and Donna Harris of Spring, Texas, and John and Kim Kerr of Kerrville, Texas. Pallbearers will be Steve Green, Milton Moorer, Keith New, Joe Evans, Paul Jocis, and David Zimmer. Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today. Memorial donations in her honor may be made to the Senior Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church in Nacogdoches, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Cason Monk-Metcalf Funeral Directors, Nacogdoches, Texas.
