John William Allen 
Gladewater Cemetery, Mt Pleasant

MOUNT PLEASANT - Services for John William Allen, 96, of 
Cookville will be held at 2 p.m. today, June 5, 2004, at 
Bates-Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Bill Parkey 
officiating. Burial will be in Gladewater Cemetery in Mount 
Pleasant. Mr. Allen, a farmer and rancher and a member of 
First Christian Church of Cookville, died Thursday, June 3, 
2004, in Mount Vernon. He was born Sept. 8, 1907, in Titus 
County. 

Mr. Allen is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Tempie 
and Newel Landrum of Del Rio; two sons and daughters-in-law, 
John Wallace and Gloria Allen of Mount Pleasant and Leroy and 
Linda Allen of Longview; his grandchildren, Gary and Luanne 
Landrum and Sherry and Gary Smith, all of Mount Pleasant, 
Barry Allen of League City, Charlotte and Ken Jordan of 
Longview, Clint Allen of San Antonio, Gina Webb and Melanie 
Snow; nine great-grandchildren; and five 
great-great-grandchildren. 

Mr. Allen's wife, Hattie Dyke Allen, whom he married Oct. 13, 
1928, preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by 
his parents, Will and Tempie Childress Allen; two sisters; and 
one brother. 

Visitation was 7-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
