Obituaries Nov. 23. 2003 The Daily Sentinel Mrs. Margery Dois Gorman Anderson Mrs. Margery Dois Gorman Anderson, age 79, of Nacogdoches listened and cared. Ready with advice if you asked and offered support if you didn't want advice. As a mother, she demonstrated high standards rather than simply demanding them. She was not always demonstrative with her love, but you felt welcome and warm with her. A friend and loving mom, Margery D. "Marge" Anderson left this life early November 6, 2003, in Nacogdoches, Texas, after a long illness. Marge was born in Afton Iowa, the fourth child of ten to Prince William Gorman (a director descendent from John Alden of the Mayflower) and Hallie Kinnalnd. Marge was 12 when her mother died, and because her blacksmith father was unable to care for the large family, Marge ended up in an orphanage in Des Moines, Iowa. In 1939 she was one of 17 orphans selected from across the United States to travel to Los Angeles for the screening of the world premiere of "The StarMaker" starring Bing Crosby and Linda Ware, a 14-year-old orphan herself. Marge was selected by the Iowa Children's Home Society for her " charm, modesty and level-headedness." At 18, Marge married Jerry Hauser. When their marriage ended in divorce, Marge took custody of their only child, the late Mark Edward Hauser (1943-1999). Marge married again but her second husband, Carl Yarrington, a paratrooper, died during D-Day, 1944. In 1945, Marge found and married her life partner, William Glen "Bill" Anderson of Ogden, Utah. Their marriage was blessed with three children, William Craig, Margery Diane and Glen Alden Anderson. In 1960, the family moved to Houston, Texas, where Marge balanced a full-time job outside the home with the daunting task of raising children, handling both with a sense of humor and high energy. Bill and Marge retired to Nacogdoches to raise cattle and horses on their Penn Creek Farm. This year Marge lost her daughter, Diane, to Lupus in January, and then her husband died in August. Both losses contributed to her decline. Marge is survived by her sons, Craig of Los Angeles and Glen of Nacogdoches; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren; and her three sisters. Private services were held in Nacogdoches. Laird-McGill Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
