Obituaries 10-19-2003 Longview News-Journal Wallace Ewing Adams Wallace Ewing Adams, 86, a practicing attorney for 62 years, passed away on Friday, Oct. 17, 2003, at Baylor Hospital in Dallas. Born in Harper, Kan., he attended the University of Texas, where he was an honor graduate. A member of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity, Mr. Adams received his law degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He was admitted to the Texas Bar in 1941 to practice before the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, as well as the U.S. Supreme Court. He served in the office of the Attorney General of Texas 1941-42, in the Captain Adjutant General Department 1942-44 and on the appeal Tribunal Texas Employment Commission 1944-46. Ewing was a former president of the Gregg County Bar Association and a Life Fellow of the Texas Bar Association. As a member of the Gregg County Pro Bono Project since 1985, Mr. Adams was a recipient of the Award of Merit and was selected to receive the Distinguished Service Award this year. He served as president of the Longview Junior Chamber of Commerce, Longview Lions Club, Longview YMCA and Longview Community Theatre. He was selected Outstanding Citizen of Longview in 1976 and served as chairman of the board of directors of East Texas Bank & Trust Co. of Longview 1958-62. Ewing was the organizing attorney of Commercial National Bank of Longview and a member of the board of directors of Town North National Bank 1980-85. Mr. Adams had been in private practice and at the time of his death was senior partner of Adams, King and Smith. Ewing Adams was dedicated to his family, community and church. He shaped the lives of his family, influenced his grandchildren and provided a lasting legacy that his friends and family will always treasure. He was the first to help the less fortunate and never turned anyone down or away as long as they were willing to help themselves. This world will never know a gentler or kinder individual. His good will and his memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Ewing was a loving father and grandfather and is survived by Ms. Claire Foster, his loving companion, who for the past six years filled his life with love, laughter and adventure, and his sons and daughters-in-law, John Wallace Adams and Karen of Dallas and James "Jim" Glenn Adams and Rosey of Lafayette, La. His grandchildren include Amy Adams Tassos and her husband, Taylor, of Dallas; Erin Adams Kroiss and her husband, Robert, of Midway, Ky.; Amanda Adams Sterett and her husband, Robert, of Dallas; and Quinn Hunter and Peyton Asher Adams of Lafayette, La. Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Tremont Adams, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Adams. A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church of Longview at noon Monday, Oct. 20.
