Obituaries 4-15-03 Longview News-Journal M.G. 'Mike' Albert Kilgore Cemetery, Kilgore, TX KILGORE - Services for M.G. "Mike" Albert, 93, of Kilgore will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2003, at Rader Funeral Home Chapel in Kilgore with Dr. William J. Ingersoll and the Rev. Ralph Rudy officiating. Burial will follow in Kilgore Cemetery. Mr. Albert died Monday, April 14, 2003, in Kilgore. He was born on Nov. 16, 1909, one of eight children born to Jacob and Lorene Albert. In 1917, he and his family moved by covered wagon to Bartlesville, Okla. Mr. Albert moved to Kilgore in May of 1936. He married Charice Mae Doan on June 19, 1948. In the fall of 1936, Mike began his career at the City of Kilgore in its water department. He started as a laborer and retired in 1974 as the city water utilities superintendent. Mr. Albert was a member of the Texas Water Utility Association's exclusive 25-year club. On two occasions he served as president of the East Texas Water Utility Association. Mr. Albert held Texas operator's licenses in water, sewage and swimming pool operations. He kept current with his water utility knowledge by attending Texas A&M Short Schools for 25 years. After retiring from the city, Mr. Albert worked as a traveling salesman for the Water Tank Service Co. Mr. Albert was an avid hunter and fisherman who loved the Weatherby Ranch in San Saba and the Howell Lake in East Texas. He was past president of the Howell Lake Association. He was a longtime member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church, where he was past president of the Alexander Griffin Sunday School Class and enjoyed cooking pancakes and biscuits with the Methodist Men. Mr. Albert is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George "Al" and Evelene Albert of Longview; he was especially close to his granddaughter and her family, Laura Albert Wink and her husband, Joel, and their children, Savannah Lauren and Joel Ryan Wink, all of Longview. He is also survived by two sisters and a brother-in-law, Bernice and Leon Giddens of Ringold, La., and Alene Pierce of Bartlesville, Okla.; his grandsons, Edward and Frank Albert of Santa Maria, Calif.; his great-grandsons, Edwin and Earl Albert, also of Santa Maria; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Albert was preceded in death by his wife, Clarice; three brothers; and two sisters. Memorials may be made to St. Luke's United Methodist Church Building Fund, 401 E. Main St., Kilgore, TX 75662.
