Russell F. Allen 
Hughes Springs Cemetery

HUGHES SPRINGS - Russell F. Allen of Hughes Springs passed away 
Tuesday, May 13, 2003, at the age of 93. He was born in Mount 
Pleasant on Aug. 11, 1909. 

In 1931, he married Zoie Bradley in 1931. She preceded him in death 

in 1973. He later married Dura D. Smith. Dura preceded him in death 
by 17 days. He died April 26, 2003. 

Mr. Allen is survived by his daughters, Jerry Ann Eason of Longview 
and Nell Tillman and her husband, Carl, of Richardson, and a 
stepson, Byron Smith and his wife, Jean, of Jefferson. He is 
survived by eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and one 
great-great-grandson. 

Russell was one of 10 children. He is survived by sisters Margaret 
LaPrade of Mount Pleasant and Jane Southerland and Dorothy Little, 
both of Longview, and brothers Morris Allen of Longview and Jimmy 
Allen of Center. He was preceded in death by one sister, Lucy 
Cordell, and three brothers, Winfred, Woodrow and Horace Allen. 

Members of the Hughes Springs Masonic Lodge #671 will conduct 
graveside commemoration of Russell for his 50-year membership in the 
lodge. All lodge members are honorary pallbearers. 

Services will be held at 10 a.m. today, May 15, at the First United 
Methodist Church of Hughes Springs with Russell's brother, the Rev. 
Jimmie Allen, and the Rev. Bluford Weikel officiating. Burial will 
be in Hughes Springs Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction 
of Reeder-Davis-Schindler Funeral Home.
